POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Executive Intern, you will have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily operations of a world-class orchestra. Under the guidance of the Executive Director, you will contribute to various aspects of orchestra management, event planning, and administration. This internship will provide hands-on experience in the arts and music industry and offer valuable insights into the behind the scenes work of one of Baltimore’s beloved cultural institutions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration – Assist with general office tasks, including data entry, filing, and correspondence.
Audience Development – Research local events, festivals, and community groups and create opportunities to connect the orchestra with a broader audience.
Company Management – Work closely with the Executive Director to support BCO’s Guest Artists’ experience with BCO through timely communication, crafting itineraries, and on-site support.
Development – Support BCO’s ongoing development activities including donor relations, grant research, and fundraising campaigns.
Event Management – Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan and execute concerts, rehearsals, and special events, ensuring smooth operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Passion for classical music and the performing arts.
Enthusiastic and self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented and able to multitask effectively.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in arts administration, music, business, or a related field (preferred not required).

Founded in 1984, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra (BCO) is a distinguished, vibrant ensemble with a 40 year history of presenting high-quality performances that have significantly enhanced the cultural vibrancy of Baltimore and its surrounding communities. Characterized by its reputation for artistic excellence, community programs, and a commitment to nurturing both established and emerging talent, the BCO attracts world-class soloists, composers, and conductors, enhancing the cultural landscape of greater Baltimore. Showcasing a wide range of classical and contemporary works, BCO has commissioned numerous works from contemporary composers, recorded and released professional albums, and embarked on successful national and international tours, further establishing its reputation on the global stage, maintaining its mission to move, inspire, and educate Baltimore’s community through world-class performances.
Today, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra continues to thrive as on of the Mid Atlantic’s most vital cultural institutions through key artistic collaborations with Jonathan Leshnoff, named BCO’s Composer in Residence in 2007, New York Philharmonic violinist Audrey Wright, BCO’s Concertmaster since the fall of 2019, the Stulberg International String Competition, and many more. The orchestra’s roster features forty of the area’s best professional musicians who perform in the 973-seat Kraushaar Auditorium at Goucher College. A committed and enthusiastic Board of Trustees composed of 17 community leaders grounded in their dedication to artistic innovation, education, and community engagement oversee the organization’s operations, generate numerous partnerships to expand the visibility of the orchestra, and ensure BCO’s legacy as a cherished and enduring presence in the nation’s classical music scene.
